April 18, 2010 - Crossing the Mississippi river

In jerseys, Jon on the center-left, Phil in the center, my riding partners today, aboard the "New Roads" ferry just before crossing the river. This is one of only two times we will make progress toward Florida without having to pedal.

St. Francisville, LA. side of the river.

On the east side of the river, the topography immediately changes from flat to "rollers". Still beautiful in its own way.

Roads like this could make a guy homesick.

Sign in a Jackson, LA. convenience store window.

  1. Love those beautiful, tree-lined roads and the pants on the ground sign - can we place those all over???? :0)

  2. Very nice roads you are riding on. I am glad to see and hear about all the fun places you are stopping. The cusiene sounds tempting, but that hot sauce wouldn't be my choice of condiment.

  3. Wayne, is the boat you are on a paddle wheel? If it is, couldn't it be said that you were paddling as well as peddling down the river on your course?

  4. Let me get this straight... you ride your bike from California all the way to Louisiana and THEN you want to take a motor vehicle? A ferry across the Mississippi? You couldn't find a bridge? At least tell me you rode laps on the boat...
