Wednesday starts out just like Monday and Tuesday, wet, breezy, a little cold. But today stores a special surprise: HAIL! Thankfully, none of our riders rode through the hail, but we saw the evidence along the road before the golf ball size pellets melted away.

Gary about to make mince meat of what would prove to be our second (of three) steep climbs of the day.

This appeared to be a restoration project. It is a camp ground and maybe a hunting camp.

More.

Those first two nasty climbs let me do this. 45.6 miles downhill with switch backs. That's a new personal best for me on two wheels. The former personal best was 39.4, also on this trip. I was simultaneously terrified and thrilled. My biggest worry was that a vehicle might pull out from a side road or be across the yellow line coming the opposite direction. But the adrenalin rush was too exhilarating to pass up.In bicycling, just as in life, you get some great rewards as payback for some of the suffering.
